Be a Better Housewife Day #3

I got everything done on the list except the Borax and I 'm going to do that soon as the little beast in my arms decides to stop clinging to me for dear life!  Darn teeth!  I'm pretty proud of The Hoosier Husband yesterday for fixing up our swing outside.  It turned into a MUCH bigger project than either of us thought it would be, but that happens sometimes!
These things were hanging around from Day 1, but I managed to get them all done (well almost).
  • Go to my wonderful friend's house to pick up an outdoor swing for the baby!
  • Meet Mom at Grandpa's to help clean his house.
  • Put down borax in the garage to take care of the ants.
  • Clean/Reorganize kitchen
  • Inventory said kitchen
  • Plan Menu for the month
  • Write grocery list
So, the plan for today!  I feel like doing NOTHING, but I'll never be a Better Hoosier Housewife doing that!
  • The oft mentioned Borax in the garage <---said in a British accent
  • Reorganize the plastic drawer in the kitchen (all the Rubbermaid containers and such)
  • Clean our bedroom
  • Carry the clothes and baby gear the kids have outgrown outside
  • sweep front porch and clean up outside
  • Go grocery shopping

Day 2 Be a Better Housewife

Day one didn't really go as planned!

  • Go to my wonderful friend's house to pick up an outdoor swing for the baby!
  • Meet Mom at Grandpa's to help clean his house.
  • Put down borax in the garage to take care of the ants.
  • Clean/Reorganize kitchen
  • Inventory said kitchen
  • Plan Menu for the month
  • Write grocery list
I managed to only get 2 1/2 things done :(

Dinner was a disater last night.  I thawed some pot roast leftovers from a couple weeks ago, but all of the meat was tough and fatty so it's getting ready to go outside with the dog!  He'll love it, I know that!!

I fell into my regular trap! I'm going in just a few (as soon as the little boy is settled down) to put the borax in the garage.  I'm going to finish the rest before I start a new list.  We also have tons of stuff to do outside today since it's hubby's day off!  I feel good about trying extra hard, but I have a long way to go.

Be a Better Housewife Day #1

I've been slacking in the Housewife department. I'm determined to snap out of my funk and get my house in order!  I need to make lists in order to get things done.  Otherwise, I get overwhelmed or preoccupied with playing or daily chores and neglect other areas of the house.

Here's my list for the day:
  • Go to my wonderful friend's house to pick up an outdoor swing for the baby!
  • Meet Mom at Grandpa's to help clean his house.
  • Put down borax in the garage to take care of the ants.
  • Clean/Reorganize kitchen
  • Inventory said kitchen
  • Plan Menu for the month
  • Write grocery list
I'm going to be realistic and call it a victory if I get 5 of 7 things done on the list!  I'm also going to try like hell to do this every day!  I think it will help me see where I can improve!  Have a wonderful day!

Friday, Friday....

gotta get down on  Friday", so the song says, right?  I'm thinking "Friday, Friday gotta do diaper laundry on Friday"  Life changes.  Five years ago I had almost committed myself to a life as a bachelorette.  I gave up on the dream of family for myself.  I was tired of trying.  I was sick of dating.  One more first date and I was literally going to vomit!  I was going to grow old as a spinster.  Neighborhood kids would think me and my 83 cats belonged to a cult.  Rumors of flying broomsticks and spells would spread through their little mouths into the ears other little grungy brats.  That was going to be my life.  I was going to travel and have fun in the mean time though.  No crazy cat lady until I was at least 70.  That sounds about right.  Right?

I met my husband and these were my first two thoughts: Wow, cute!  and Wow! Young!!  I found out that this cutie pie was in fact 7 years younger than me.  Great.  We dated a few times and I really liked him, but was reserved because of our age difference.  We split up.  We got back together over some McNuggets and sweet and sour sauce.

We did things out of order.  The baby came first....then the marriage.  I couldn't believe I was in love, with child and husband.  My life had changed so much!  No more gettin' down on Friday or Saturday for that matter.  So imagine life when my little girl was joined by a sweet little mama's boy!!  I can't imagine my life as it was.  I admit that a night out on the town with a tasty Margarita in hand sounds mighty nice, but a night in with my little family trumps it every time!!

Today is an important day in our household.  First things first, it's Good Friday.  I was raised Lutheran and quit going to church after high school.  As I had my children I felt the need to go back to church but was embarrassed about being away for so long.  We had our daughter baptized and then quit going.  The birth of our son found us talking about going back to church....again.  Our minister had retired and our church has an interim minister.  He's an older gentleman, but is forward thinking and he WORKS to make you feel welcomed to return. My husband has very little experience with any church so it's all new for him.  I'm thankful to God that His Word is a part of our lives!  I'm thankful to our congregation for their warm welcome and look forward to Sunday morning when our son will be baptized!!

Earth Day has found a lot of meaning with me as my family has grown from two to four.  We started our recycling system in January 2010 after seeing a successful  set up at our babysitter's home.  The goal is to drop our recycling off once a week, but it really happens every two weeks.  As summer with it's heat and humidity approach it WILL be once a week or possibly twice.  Our biggest Earth saving change for 2011 is cloth diapering!!  I wish I would have done it with our daughter, but wasn't educated about the wonders of modern cloth diapers!!  We proudly use cloth for our son full time and the big sister wears one to bed every night!!  It's extra laundry twice a week, but it helps the environment and will save us a ton of money over the next couple of years!!

Welcome to the ramblings of me, The Hoosier Housewife!  Have a wonderful and blessed Easter weekend!
